Project Asterisk Inter-HackLabs
From Guifi.net - English Wiki
This is just a summary of the information about this project, to make it easier for other people to become part of it.
The project was started on the 20th of January 2007 by the hacklabs mailing list.

Target
To establish a VOIP communication between hacklabs creating Asterisk nodes.
Summary
The idea here is to build a network of nodes using Asterisk PBX and the IAX protocol. In order to do this it is needed to define a numbering scheme which will be shared among all nodes through the DUNDI protocol.
The clients will be able to use any softphone or IP phone supporting the SIP o IAX protocols. On GNU/Linux we recommend Twinkle for softphone and Ekiga for video-meeting. Hardware IP phones are a bit expensive, no less than 60€. On eBay you can probably find something cheaper.
In order to be able to connect to the phone network it is recommended that every node has a PCI card with interfax FXO, so that people on the PSTN can talk with the nodes and vice versa. To do this it is also recommended a flat rate phone billing for national calls (usually shipped with ADSL).
Status
Stage 4
We will revise the first three :) A log from IRC is available at http://blackhold.blogspot.com/2007/02/charla-asterisk-asterisk-es.html
Stage 3
On february, the 3rd at 6pm (UTC+1): meeting IRL and on IRC (freenode, #asterisk-es)
- Once we get the computers working and online we will proceed to install and setup Asterisk. The required steps will be taken together, reporting in real time on the IRC channel.
Stage 2
Started February, the 1st: to build the computers on which Asterisk will be installed. A list of the nodes follows:
- nodreams.blogxpopuli.org for RAM
Hardware: Pentium III FXO card: not working OS: unknown Internet connection: 24h on fiber Phone calls rate: flat ("se dispone de red de telefonía, pero actualmente se desconoce la tarificación")
- jorda.? - 82.223.10.105 for Kernel Panic
Hardware: Pentium IV FXO card: not present OS: Debian Internet connection: 24h on ADSL? Phone calls rate: flat ("se dispone de red de telefonía, pero actualmente se desconoce la tarificación")
- null-lab.hacklabs.org for Null-Lab
Hardware: AMD Athlon XP FXO card: not present, at the moment OS: Debian Internet connection: 24h on ADSL Phone calls rate: flat
- Alhack
- WH2001
- Nòmada
- 80.33.112.169 for the Hacklab Ateneo Villaverde
Hardware: Pentium III FXO card: present, not working OS: Debian Internet connection: 24h on ADSL Phone calls rate: normal billing
- underto.dyndns.org for underscore_TO*
Hardware: AMD Athlon FXO card: not present OS: Gentoo Phone calls rate: not available
Stage 1
Started January, the 20th: contacting people to form the team which will build the VOIP nodes.
This is the moment to read and find documentation :-) (there's a lot to learn)
Services available with PBX
- Calls and video-calls among all users of the nodes
- Buzón de voz y voice2mail.
- Call redirect
- Music on waiting
- Conference rooms
- Do not disturb
- Follow me
- Creation of interactive menus for each hacklab, IVR
- Access to the world's fixed phone network (PSTN) using fwdOUT.
Numbering scheme
- Madrid 10000 - 10999
- Málaga 11000 - 11999
- San Francisco 12000 - 12999
- Barcelona 13000 - 13999
- Salamanca 14000 - 14999
- Mataró 15000 - 15999
Add the numbering for your town or hacklab.
Note: does it make sense that every town has the same quantity of numbers available?
