What is Blogx Populi?

Blogx Populi comes from the Latin expression vox populi, which means "voice of the people", used for indicating something which is well-known and is known everywhere. We retook and adapted that old expression from Latin mainly because Blogx Populi's main concern is communication.

Blogx Populi therefore means having an interest for horizontal communication, an interest for liberty and flow of knowledge, an interest in potentiating the collective empowerment necessary for social change. All this through software development and a self-managed server network which provide new types of communication structures.

All software developed by Blogx Populi is free and under GPL license, as well as all its contents which are under copyleft free license.

Blogx Populi technical aspects

All services which Blogx Populy is developing or means to develop are based on auto-management and auto-organization, according to our socio-politic compromise, which we believe is the only way to anable the horizontal communication we desire.

Tecnically speaking, Blogx Populy is currently articulated by four servers all functioning under GNU/Linux platform.

NoDreams and Orwell are our two production servers, prepared for services. NoDreams, is located at and giving service to Xarxa Cooperative SenseFils. Orwel is Blogx Populi most recent acquisition and where LDAP server has been implemented LDAP. We have a third server for software development management through Subversion, which is a rented machine facilitated by one of the persons envolved in the project. Lastly, a fourth server, SourcerForge, which gives us the necessary space for hosting our Web, our developed software downloads (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=109883) the unloadings of developed software and the mail list: blogmail-general (he entrances) lists.sourceforge.net

Blogx Populy wants to divide services and machines to descentralize management and so that communities are able to auto-manage themselves stretching further and further, in one wide and far-reaching expanse.

Not only we desire to give service but also anable participation in software development and/or server administration. All this means turning individuals into collaborating people, returning control and liberating them from being mere users, that which internet companies would like them to be.

What are Blogx Populi current projects?

At the moment, the most developed software by Blogx Populi is BlogMail, prepared to work uniformly as a weblog server and mail lists manager.

MailWoman is another project, a mail list manager with RSS.

Another project is Codes for the sexaffective relations.

We have a technical or social project and would like you to help us with your technical / social infrastructure

Blogx Populi can provide you with the necessary mail accounts for project members, mail lists, Web space, common work... tell us about your project or group and your needs, and if it's within our political line and objectives explained in these FAQs, you may consider yourself a member of Blogx Populi. How are expenses covered by Blogx Populi?

With the contributions of our members. There are no quotas, nor prices nor anything alike. Our hope is that whoever takes part in the project also takes part in the responsibility of its financing in the measure that each one is able to. In an orientative way, a contribution of about 30 euros/year is recommended, however everyone contributes what he/she wants.

Blogx Populi politically and ideologically

Blogx Populi takes the philosophy from free software to take it clearly and directly to the plane of the human relationships, of the feelings and the intellectual collective work. As way of cultural and artistic creation and as movement of political - social action, Blogx Populi creates and works new ways of understanding the communication, the artistic and cultural creation and the social action.

We believe that the representations of our lives are done across the mass media of masses, as the TV, and this is very far from representing ourselves really. Across these mass media there are established realities foreign to us, there are established ways of making and thinking the things, there is created a reality that us is foreign because we are not creating it. That way, the lives that we take to end are in the habit of being beyond the public representation that of them is done. Sharing our experiences we can change it, we can be the creators of our own realities, with which to feel ourselves identified and to construct mind and society.

The use of Internet has constructed the call of society of the information, we want to take part of it and to create Internet of communicative nets where the people who does not have big sums of money could take to end big companies of communication, of telephony, etc.

Everybody generate and possess power, but the power remains in little when it does not come to many people. We should be capable of re-adapt of this collective power, which seems to have stayed in hands of companies and mass media as the TV or the news, to construct our own societies, to get empowerment.

Guy Debord (1961), expressed all this clearly in what says: What is private life deprived of? Quite simply of life itself, which is cruelly absent. People are as deprived as possible of communication and of self-fulfillment; deprived of the opportunity to personally make their own history.

A call to participation

Blogx Populi invites everyone to participate.

There are many open fields and fronts in which you can participate. You can take part in technical development, server administration, documentation, wiki editing, diffussion, funding, social study and analysis and/or sharing with us your impressions and experiences, your knowledge.

As you see, you don't need have any technical knowledge to participate in Blogx Populi, but if you have, we encourage you to use it and share. Developing this software has taken its time, there are many services and servers and the more people who get involved in the project, the better for all.

Who are Blogx Populi?

Blogx Populi is our shared, free and released experiences and knowledge, free and liberated.

At human level, Blogx Populi makes a heterogenous network of people implied in one or several things according to possible interests and knowledge. In Blogx Populi there are people programmers, developer of software, administrators of servers, also social investigators, betatesters (people who prove the services before offering them massively) and there are participant users.
